Kristle Calisto-Tavares – President
Kristle’s interest and passion in seniors’ care began as a teenager volunteering in a local hospice in her hometown. More recently, a family member’s personal experience in long term care opened her eyes to the shortcomings and giant gaps in the system. Through her social-purpose business, Kristle works with organizations and enterprises toward collaborative changemaking. She is passionate about the work Concerned Friends is engaged in and eager to lend her two decades’ worth of skills in the citizen sector toward building a movement that uplifts the standard of care and quality of life for all seniors living in long term care.
Sharon Filger – Vice-President
Sharon has a Master’s Degree in Social Work (Community Development) and more than 40 years’ experience working in the non-profit service sector. She held various direct service and senior management positions including, most recently, as the Executive Director of The Macaulay Child Development Centre, a multi-service child and family support charity in Toronto. She has led various inter-agency and community planning groups; served on the Board of Directors of local and provincial associations; and contributed to government policy through participation on various provincial and municipal Task Forces and Advisory Groups. She has co-authored/edited several Professional Manuals.
Steve Moysey – Treasurer
Steve is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CMA) with a Bachelor of Commerce degree (B.Comm.) from the University of Toronto. After 21 years, Steve took an early retirement from Dematic Limited, a global material handling and logistics company, where he held the position of Chief Financial Officer and Vice President, Finance in their Canadian operation. Since 2018, Steve has served on the Board of Directors of Peel Senior Link, a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to assisting seniors in their own homes through 24/7 home care support. In prior years, he served on the Board of Directors as Treasurer of The Learning Place, a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to assisting adults improve their literary skills to gain employment and live independently. Since his retirement from full-time employment, Steve has remained active, functioning as a Financial Consultant to a variety of organizations, in both paid and volunteer roles. Steve is a Volunteer Consultant with MAS Advisory Services, a non-profit agency focused on helping non-profit organizations with specialized assistance in the areas of strategic planning, governance, HR, marketing, finance, fundraising, and IT.
Heeba Abdullah – Director-at-Large
Heeba has a strong passion for working with the geriatric population. In addition to working as an occupational therapist in multiple long term care homes and retirement homes over the past 7 years, she has been volunteering with seniors over the past two decades as an activity aide, companion, and general volunteer in both Toronto and Ottawa. She has a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology and Gerontology, a Master’s of Health Sciences in Occupational Therapy, and is currently pursuing a Master’s in Health Administration. Heeba hopes to be a strong advocate for residents in long-term care homes.
Isabell Berry – Director-at-Large
Isabell has been an avid animal and human rights activist her whole life, participating in various organizations to raise awareness and build a kinder and more compassionate environment for all. She has been working in marketing strategy for almost 20 years with some of the top brands in the world. She has had personal experience with the challenges in securing retirement care that is responsive, clean, joyful and cost effective and hopes to be able to make a difference in the availability of excellent care for all who need it. Isabell and her family, including husband, two daughters, as well as numerous four-legged family members, live in beautiful Fergus Ontario. When she is not riding horses or crafting marketing campaigns, she enjoys skiing, hiking and reading.
Marsha Clyne – Director-at-Large
Marsha holds an MSc in Nonprofit Leadership and Philanthropy. She became inspired to become a voice for seniors within the long-term care system after her experience working as a marketing director at a retirement home. She brings a wealth of experience as an executive leader with a fervent commitment to advancing the missions of nonprofit organizations and advocating for social impact. Her expertise spans Client Relations Management, Project Management, Donor Relations, and Conflict Analysis and Management. Through her multifaceted background, Marsha has remained a passionate advocate for various causes within the nonprofit sector. Her compassionate approach and her advocacy leadership play a pivotal role in raising awareness, supporting research, and inspiring positive change. Marsha is a trailblazer in her efforts to make a meaningful difference, and her role on the Board of Concerned Friends further underscores her commitment to the well-being and rights of seniors within the LTC system.
Alice Gaudine – Director-at-Large
Alice is a nurse educator with a Master’s in Nursing and a PhD in administration, with over 40 years of experience as a Registered Nurse. She is a fellow of the Canadian Academy of Nurses. She is aware of the need to develop and implement national standards for long term care. The COVID pandemic (temporarily) brought the lack of LTC national standards to the public’s attention but for a variety of reasons, advocacy is needed to improve LTC. She believes that the work of Concerned Friends fills an important gap in health care through helping individuals and families, and through advocacy to promote changes in the provision of LTC.
Kathleen Knowlton-Krueger – Director-at-Large
Kathy is a graduate CCW from Humber College with an extensive career in Social Services, where she was an advocate for children and their families, private counselor, and Community College teacher. She is currently the Administrator for the Community Services Bureau of a Police Service. Her advocacy skills were of benefit when caring for her own parents over a period of twenty years. Throughout this journey, Kathy experienced, firsthand, the many stumbling blocks, inadequacies in care and gaps in services for the elderly. Her passion for preserving the dignity and overall, wellbeing of the vulnerable population brought her to Concerned Friends.
Sharon Lee – Director-at-Large
Sharon Lee MA, CFRE, is a Director at Large on the Board of Concerned Friends. She found Concerned Friends at a time when she was exploring long-term care for her aging parent. As the Executive Director of the Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, Sharon is an accomplished executive leader with a passion for driving social impact, dedicated to advancing the mission of nonprofit organizations. Through her work, she is improving the lives of Canadians living with pulmonary fibrosis by providing compassionate support, leading advocacy, raising awareness, funding research, and inspiring hope. Her expertise lies in building collaborative partnerships, fostering donor relationships, and implementing innovative programs that address critical social challenges.
Lynette Mader – Director-at-Large
Lynette has a 21-year background managing a non-profit as well as volunteering at board, committee and hands-on levels for a variety of organizations including Cystic Fibrosis Canada, Tourism London, Barrie Kinettes, municipal council committees, Women’s Institute and more recently a long term care volunteer. She has been appointed to numerous provincial committees and panels through her work. Lynette’s father entered Long Term Care in 2018 and passed away in 2021 during the pandemic. While her dad was in a good home that navigated the pandemic reasonably well, the experience was eye opening and traumatic. She witnessed many of the systemic challenges that present limiting factors to improved quality of life for residents, even before the pandemic. Lynette joined Concerned Friends because she wanted to be part of a provincial movement to affect policy change. She continues to volunteer at a local non-profit LTCH.
