Helping You Find Your Way

SPECIAL NOTICE: Please note that currently our program is on hiatus while we undertake some program improvements. Please visit our Long-Term Care Resources page for a number of helpful online resources. You can also email us at info@concernedfriends.ca and we will respond with a list of resources that may help answer your questions.

Our apologies for not being able to serve you at this time, but we hope to be back up and running in the near future.

Concerned Friends is pleased to offer our Wayfinding Program to members of the public in Ontario.

We match knowledgeable volunteers with seniors and members of the public seeking support and assistance in navigating all aspects of long-term care. Issues such as:

  • Care of a current Long-Term Care Resident
  • Finding a Long-Term Care facility for a friend or relative
  • All aspects of planning the move to Long-Term Care
  • Qualifications to be eligible for Long-Term Care
  • And so much more…

Over the years, we have helped hundreds of families participating in the long-term care system and we continue to expand our program. If you need help regarding a resident, family or a friend, reach out to us. There is no cost to users.

The following numbers are our local and toll-free answering service. You will hear a recorded message where you can leave your name, contact number, and information about your issue or question. Alternatively, you can also email us. We make every effort to get back to you within 48 hours or less.

Wayfinding Program

For many years now, our Wayfinding Program has matched knowledgeable volunteers with seniors and members of the public seeking support and assistance.

Over the years, we have helped hundreds of families participating in the long-term care system.

Our Impact

Wayfinding Piechart

The Ontario Long-Term Care system is confusing and can be difficult to access.

Frail and sometimes isolated seniors and their family members are often frustrated in their efforts to navigate a complex long-term care system. The number of beds available are extremely limited and the government uses an internal rating system to determine who gets placed when and where. Some homes are older with aesthetic and physical challenges as a result of building age. Other homes are newer with modern updates and enhanced services, yet they generally have very long waiting lists as a result of their desirability over the older homes.

Once a family member is placed and resides in a long-term care home, issues can arise relating to the quality of care, resident rights, visitation policy, programs and services, safety, health and nutrition, and so much more.

Our volunteers have dealt with many of these common issues and are available to help support you with information and resources.
